Larry Kent Mace, 82, of Hagerstown, MD passed away on Tuesday, May 12th surrounded by his children at Doey's House in Hagerstown, MD.
He was born on September 24, 1943 at Jefferson Barracks in Lemay, Missouri. He was the son of the late Charles and Elaine Mace. He graduated from South Hagerstown High School in 1961. He first was employed as a mechanic at Massey Ford. In 1964 he was drafted to the United States Army and served in the Army Reserves for 6 years. He later worked as a mechanic at various places including Hess Auto Supply and Chevy Chase Cars in Bethesda, MD. He retired in 2011.
On September 11, 1965, he married Mary Louise Fabian Mace at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hagerstown, MD. She preceded him in death on September 27, 2020, after 55 years of marriage. Larry is survived by his two children, Todd Mace and his wife, Sherry, of Williamsport, MD, and Cindy Scott and her husband, Mike, of Hagerstown, MD. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Sydney Scott, Hannah Mace, and Ryan Scott, his brother, Jim Mace and his wife, Mary Lou and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Larry enjoyed many hobbies over the years such as building race cars, flying single engine planes, fishing on a boat, playing golf, going to the horse track, skiing, going to Nascar Races, watching the Orioles play, doing the Herald Mail crossword puzzles, and smoking his cigars. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and their friends.
The funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Friday, May 22, 2026, at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD. Father Brandt Montgomery will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, May 21, 2026, from 6-8 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Doey's House, 11370 Caring Pathway Lane, Hagerstown, MD 21742. The family is so grateful to the staff for providing excellent care there during Larry's stay.
