Kathleen Ruth Hills Downin died peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, MD on November 26, 2024, at the age of 79.

Kathleen is survived by her husband, Thomas J. Downin of Williamsport, MD; her son, Stephen E. Griffith and his wife, Jennifer A. Griffith of St. Petersburg, FL; her son, Christopher M. Griffith and his wife, June A. Griffith of Ocean City, MD; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her mother, Ruth F. Cooper Hills and father, Kenneth J. Hills; sisters, Mary L. Golden, Carol E. Burgan; brothers, Leslie (Sonny) J. Hills, Thomas D. Hills, and Robert S. Hills.

Kathleen was born on June 14, 1945, in Winchester, VA. She graduated from South Hagerstown High School in 1963. She worked for Noland Company, in Hagerstown, MD as an inventory manager until her retirement. She later worked for Fellows Plumbing and Heating, in Frederick, MD in the same capacity.

Her children remember her as a loving mother who taught them life's lessons and demonstrated a strong work ethic to them both. Her grandchildren/great grandchildren affectionately referred to her as either Grandma Kathy or Nanny Kathy. She loved NASCAR, Maryland Terrapins Basketball and NFL football.

A celebration of life gathering will be held at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown MD, 21740 on Saturday, January 18, 2025, from 2:00PM – 5:00PM.
