KAREN ANN COSS, 54, of 108 Pine Lake Road, Cape Carteret, North Carolina, passed away Christmas Eve at Carteret General Hospital in Morehead City, North Carolina, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Her daughter and husband were holding her hands, with her sister and other family members at her bedside. Born on November 26, 1957, in Silver Spring, Maryland she was the daughter of the late William Oheim, and Reba Oheim of Silver Spring, Maryland. She accepted Christ as her Savior at Woodside United Methodist Church. She was a member of Jobs Daughters. She was a graduate of Northwood High School and Frostburg State College. She retired from the Maryland Department of Human Resources in 2009, after thirty-one years of service, with the final twenty-nine years working for the Washington County Department of Social Services in Hagerstown. She was a philanthropist and activist, raising funds for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, and was a member of the first ever collective bargaining team for Maryland state employees. She was a lifetime member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha (ESA). During her illness, she made and sold beaded bracelets, donating more than $1000 for the Carteret General Foundation. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of fourteen years, Brian Coss, formerly of Hagerstown and now residing in Cape Carteret, North Carolina; her children, Ashley Worthington, and fianc, Andrew Fearn, of Crofton, Maryland, and Specialist Bradley Worthington, U. S. Army, and wife, Audra Worthington, of Ft. Washington; one sister, Susan Sella, and husband, John Sella, of Silver Spring, Maryland; seven nephews and nieces; and numerous cousins, aunts, uncles, great-aunts and great-uncles. The service will be held on Monday, January 2, 2012 at 11:00 a. m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown. The Rev. Dean Miller of First Christian Church in Boonsboro, Maryland will preside. Maryland State employees attending are requested to observe casual dress code guidelines. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, January 2, 2012 from 10:00 to 11:00 a. m., one hour prior to the service. Burial will be on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at 10:00 a. m. in Ringgold Cemetery in Ringgold, Maryland.
