Obituary

JUNE ELAINE SPRECHER, 85, Hagerstown, MD passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, October 9, 2016 at Meritus Medical Center, Hagerstown, MD. Born, February 15, 1931 in Chewsville, MD, she was the youngest of two siblings born to the late Paul Umstot Shilling and Catherine Elizabeth (Longnecker) Shilling. June grew up playing hide and seek, playing house, and playing in the stream on her grandparent's farm, which she and her husband eventually took over. June graduated from Hagerstown High School where she played clarinet in the high school band. She attended Hagerstown Business College to study business and became a secretary at the radio station in Frederick, and then moved to Washington DC to work for the Department of Interior. June met her husband at Hagerstown High School, and dated through letters for several years, as he joined the Navy after graduation. Driving through a snow storm after their wedding, they began their married life in Washington state, enjoying adventures in Hawaii, New Jersey, Morocco, Key West, and Charleston, SC. They eventually settled their family back home on the farm in Chewsville for their next adventure, and she adapted from Navy wife to farm wife. Her faith was an integral part of her life and she carried it with her from the time she was a little girl. She was a lifelong member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Chewsville, MD. When asked how she would tell someone to get through tough times, she said to "just have strength, and hang on to God. We don't know what's going to happen, but you just have faith and trust. He just shows you the way." One of the greatest joys of her life was watching her grandchildren grow, and she saw her family as one of her greatest accomplishments. June is survived by four children, Brian Sprecher and wife, Andrea, Denise Michael and husband, Boyd, Barry Sprecher and wife, Penny and Bret Sprecher and wife, Lisa; eleven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and her sister, Janet Deibert. June was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert (Eddie) Sprecher Jr., whom she married on December 30, 1951. Services will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, October 14, 2016 at Bethel United Methodist Church, 21006 Twin Spring Drive, Smithsburg, MD. Pastor Jim Johnson and Rev. John Schildt will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm, Thursday, October 13, 2016 at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. Hagerstown, MD. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church, 21006 Twin Springs Dr. Smithsburg, MD 21783.
