Obituary

June Elizabeth (Brunner) Green, a treasured soul whose life was marked by kindness, dedication, and joy, passed away peacefully due to natural causes on May 26, 2024, at the age of 94, at Hearthstone Retirement Home in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania.

Born on November 18, 1929, in Hagerstown, MD to the late John H. and Lucille (Ogden) Brunner, June was a beacon of light to all who knew her. Her early years were spent in the embrace of this tight-knit community, which she cherished throughout her life. June graduated from Hagerstown High School in the class of 1948, carrying with her memories and friendships that would last a lifetime.

June's professional journey was characterized by her service to others. She worked diligently as a secretary at Washington Square United Methodist Church, where her faith-filled spirit touched the hearts of many. Her commitment to the community extended to her role with the Women's Auxiliary at Washington County Hospital and her impressive contribution of over 1000 volunteer hours at Pangborn Elementary School. June's warm smile became a familiar joy and comfort as she greeted patrons as a hostess at IHOP for a decade.

In her personal life, June was a devoted wife to her late husband of 65 years, Walter L. Green, and a loving mother to her son, Steven Green, and his wife, Nancy (Foltz) Green. Her legacy continued with her grandsons, Robert Green and Phillip Green and his wife Karla, and her great-granddaughters, Karen and Hannah, who will forever cherish their memories of her, as well as other extended family members.

June's passion for life was evident in her many interests and hobbies. June thoroughly enjoyed knitting and giving away many of her creations. Anyone she knew who was expecting would receive a "June" original. She made hats for her doctors and their staff and her dentist and all the office staff. She gave Nancy and Steve hats for the ministry they were involved in. The family all received special hats or glove sets. She was an active member of the Potomac Temple 28 Pythian Sisters for over 40 years, taking on various positions within the organization. Her love for aviation led her to become an integral part of EAA Chapter 36, where she served as secretary and newsletter editor, sharing her enthusiasm and knowledge with fellow aviation aficionados. Her husband Walter, son Steve, and June built an Experimental Aircraft, a BD4. Their grandson, Phillip, even bucked rivets, helping to build the plane. June and Walter gave tours of the Washington County Regional Airport to schools, churches, and scout troops for years, and their surprise 50th anniversary was held in the terminal. They even had an opportunity to fly over the Grand Canyon when June accompanied Walter on a business trip.

Those who knew June would describe her as a faith-filled, loving, and intelligent woman. She navigated life's challenges with grace and always had a word of encouragement or a listening ear for those in need. Her unwavering faith was the foundation upon which she built her life and inspired her daily interactions.

June's spirit of adventure and her zest for life were contagious. Her involvement in the community, her dedication to her family, and her pursuit of personal passions are a testament to the extraordinary life she led. She was a woman who not only soared in the skies but also in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.

As we say farewell to June Elizabeth (Brunner) Green, we celebrate a life well-lived and a legacy of love and service that will continue to resonate in the community she so dearly loved. Her memory will be cherished and kept alive in the stories passed down through generations and in the countless lives she touched with her generosity and spirit.

June's journey on earth may have come to a gentle close, but the impact of her life will never fade. She has left an indelible mark on the world, and her light will continue to shine brightly in the memories of her beloved family and friends. We take comfort in knowing that June's spirit has taken flight into the eternal skies, leaving us with the warmth of her love and the inspiration of her life's example. As those in the Aviation Community would say "June has not died, just that she has gone West."

A memorial service will be held at 11am on Thursday, June 6, 2024, Washington Square United Methodist Church, 538 Washington Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21740. Rev. Bob Snyder will be officiating. Rev.
