Obituary

Juanita Ruth Mandley, our beloved Mom Mom, died on Thursday, February 13, 2025, in Hagerstown, Maryland.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Paul Mandley, and her dear grandson, Morgan

Mandley.

She is survived by her four children and their spouses: John Keith and Mary Mandley of Denver, Colorado; Edward Vincent and Yolanda Mandley of Bethesda, Maryland; Robert Paul and Stella Mandley of Hagerstown, Maryland; and Linda Ann (Lyn) and Gabriel Joseph Pecoraro of Cumberland, Maryland; as well as 13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

She was born Juanita Ruth Vilderane on March 2, 1928, in Scranton, Pennsylvania. She spent her early childhood in Hopland, California, returning to Scranton at 5 years old. After graduation from high school, she moved to the Washington, DC area where she would spend most of her life.

From beginning her working life at age 18 with Greyhound Bus Lines, she continued to work for a variety of companies in positions of increasing merit and retired as the administrative assistant to the Vice President of EG&G in Rockville Maryland.

Following the end of her full-time employment she continued her service in several part-time and volunteer positions with the Alzheimer's Association and the Family Center in Frederick, Maryland.

While her working career was integral to her life, her love and her abundance of energy were dedicated to her family. She was a devoted wife and mother and loving Mom Mom. She loved horses, all animals, music, the beach, hard shell crabs, travel, nice cars and nice people. She is remembered for her eager acceptance of all invitations!

Our Mom Mom was a woman of true integrity and epitomized the best and truest form of tough and unconditional love. She may not have been the very best cook, but she sure was an excellent dancer and confidante to all of us. Tough, thorough, competent, generous, and loving. There was nothing she would not do for or give to her family and friends. May we always carry her memories and tenacity with us.

Interment will be at a private family ceremony at Arlington National Ceremony with a celebration of her life to be planned separately.

The family extends our sincere gratitude to the staff at Brookdale Assisted Living in Hagerstown for their attentive and loving care in her final years.
