Juanita B. Russell Kann passed from this life on April 5, 2016 at Williamsport Retirement Village, where she resided for the past ten years. Born in Hagerstown on September 13, 1927, Juanita was the daughter of John Henry Russell and Helen Gertrude Clayburn Russell. The oldest of five, Juanita went to work at an early age, her first job being with the Lovely Dame Candy Store in downtown Hagerstown. How appropriate for someone who had a life-long love of chocolate. She worked in various manufacturing jobs in Hagerstown, the last one being Dorbee Dress Factory on East Franklin Street, before retiring in 1976 to help care for her ailing mother. In June, 1946, Juanita married Robert Maxwell Kann. They were married 57 years before he passed away in 2003. Also preceding her in death was brother, Aldean "Bud" Russell in 2003, brother and sister-in-law, Robert Eugene Russell in 2015 and Frances E. Russell in 2013, and brother-in-law, Jack L. Kann in 2001. Juanita was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church for fifty-six years. She was also a member of the Ladies Garment Workers Union. Juanita was a hard worker all of her life and passed down her work ethic to her son and granddaughter, a trait for which they will always be grateful. Surviving family includes son, Robert B. "George" Kann, his wife Carla, granddaughter Valerie, her husband Michael Gibson, and Juanita's only great-grandson, Jack; sister, Mary C. "Sis" Kann, brother, Ronald L. Russell and his wife Mary Ann, and sister-in-law, Anna Russell, as well as three maternal aunts and many nieces and nephews. Services will be officiated by Rev. Dr. Steve Robison at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown on Friday, April 8, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown, MD. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Juanita's family would like to thank the staff at Williamsport Retirement Village for the wonderful, compassionate care that has been given to her over the last ten years. All of you were a second family to her and to us and we are truly grateful for your kindness and concern.
