Obituary

JOSEPH BRANDT YOUNG, SR., 71, of 13936 Maugansville Road, Maugansville, Maryland, died on Monday, November 5, 2012 at Meritus Medical Center. Born September 30, 1941, in Hagerstown, Maryland, he was the son of the late Jack Edward and Anna Bell Virginia Riley Young. He was raised by his grandparents, the late Harry and Florence Young of Hagerstown. He graduated in 1960 from North Hagerstown High School. He retired from Mack Truck, Inc., after working forty-one years. He was a member of the U. A. W. 171. Joe will always be remembered for his love of sports. He garnered the nickname of "Blue" for his passion for the University of North Carolina. He bowled duckpins for years in the Commercial A League at Dual Lanes in Hagerstown. He also played softball and was recognized as the Mack Truck League player of the decade for the 1970's. He is survived by one son, Joseph B. Young, Jr., and wife, Connie, of Hagerstown, along with three grandchildren, Sarah, Emily, and Kate. In addition to his parents and grandparents, he was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p. m. Friday at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. The Rev. Robert V. Robinson will officiate. Family will receive friends at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown on Friday two hours prior to the graveside service from 11:00 a. m. to 1:00 p. m.
