JOSEPH AUSTIN JOHNSON, JR., 80, of Hagerstown, Maryland, died on Thursday, October 15, 2009 at the Washington County Hospital. Born February 2, 1929 in Akron, Ohio, he was the son of the late Margaret Lum Johnson. He graduated from Hagerstown High School in 1947. He served in the U. S. Army. He was employed at Pangborn Corporation for forty-five years as a Senior Order Analyst. He was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church since 1941, the Chancel Choir for 63 years, the Church Council, the Crossroads Sunday School Class and he and his wife were the Communion Stewards of the church for thirty years. He was also a previous coach for Otterbein's softball team. He was a former member of the Men's Pangborn Bowling League and he was an avid Washington Redskins and Baltimore Orioles fan. He was totally devoted to his family, and enjoyed spending time with them at dinners, picnics, and special events in their lives. He is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, Catherine E. Johnson, whom he married in 1955; daughters, Jo Ellen Wisherd, and husband, Larry, of Hagerstown, Trina Johnson of Hagerstown; and son Joseph (Jay) Johnson, and wife, Joyce, of Frederick, Maryland; grandchildren, Nathan Wisherd, Jamy and Zachary Johnson, Doug and Jennifer Fair; and two great-grandchildren, Luke and Ben Fair. Services will be held at Otterbein United Methodist Church on Monday at 11:00 a. m. Rev. Dr. Stephen D. Robison will officiate. Burial will be in Beautiful View Cemetery in State Line, Maryland. Family will receive friends at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown on Sunday from 6 to 8 p. m.
