Mr. Joseph H. Bowles Jr., a proud veteran of the Vietnam War, passed peacefully on Thursday, October 20, 2022, at Doey's House. Born June 25, 1948, he was the son of Joseph H. Bowles Sr. and Mary Magdelene Campbell.

At the age of 17, Joe enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served in the Vietnam War. During his service June of 1965 through July of 1975, he attained the rank of Sergeant and received multiple medals of honor.

After proudly serving his country, Joe worked at various factories and retired from the Williamsport Tannery.

Joe was an animal lover who took in many stray dogs over the years. His latest 4-legged love is dear Baby Girl, a pit bull he rescued 10 years ago. Joe's passions were being outdoors, hunting deer and turkey, fishing, and crabbing.

Joe is survived by siblings: Joanne Benfield, Livy Herche, Jackie Zielstorf, Donnie Bowles, David Bowles, Dale Bowles, Lilly Griffith, Bonita Leach, daughter Cheryl Kellick, grandchildren Joseph Kline, Kane Mellott, and Sandy Lee Jones, stepson Donald Smith Jr., stepdaughter Lisa Leisher, as well as special niece and caregiver Ami Reisinger (husband Duane). Joe also has many nieces and nephews who he will miss. His loved ones will remember his independent nature and his will to live life on his terms.

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by siblings: Kay Thompson, Judy Kara, Sharon Bell, and Eddie Bowles.

A viewing will be held at Minnich Funeral Home Thursday, October 27, 2022, from 6-8pm. A service honoring the life of Joseph H. Bowles Jr. will be held at Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery on Friday, October 28, 2022 at 2:00 pm.
