John Henry Young, Jr., 99, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away on Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at under hospice care at Coffman Nursing Home in Hagerstown.

Born February 11, 1923, in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late John Henry Young, Sr. and Lena (Walker) Young.

John was preceded in death by his first wife, Ivy Myer Young, his second wife, Erma Mowen Carter Young, and his third wife, Valeria Eccard Young; and a good friend, Pamela Kenrick.

John was employed at Fairchild Republic for 20 years as an assembly worker and spent 10 of those years as part of the civil air patrol. He worked at Valley Evergreen Nursery, Massey Ford, Lehman's Pet Shop, and during his retirement years, for the City of Hagerstown, Department of Parks and Recreation.

He loved to build and fly remote control airplanes. He enjoyed woodworking and would build duck and plane whirligigs. He loved old country and western music. He was a big NASCAR fan. He would go to races with his friends and also deep-sea fishing.

He attended Calvary United Church of Christ in Waynesboro, PA.

John is survived by his son, Richard Young; his stepson, John F. Carter, Jr.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Helen Vickers and Ruthie Buffington, and his brother, Bob Young.

A graveside service will be held at 11am on Thursday, December 8, 2022, at Rose Hill Cemetery, 600 S. Potomac St., Hagerstown, MD. Chaplain W. Jack Myers will officiate.
