John R. Stouffer Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to everyone he met, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, at his home in Roebuck, SC on Thursday, April 4, 2024. John was born on October 8, 1941 in Brunswick, MD to the late Nancye (Grimm) Stouffer and John Raymond Stouffer, Sr. John was a lifelong resident of Hagerstown and Clear Spring, MD until relocating to South Carolina in retirement.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Barbara (Peacher) Stouffer.
John graduated from South Hagerstown High School in 1959 and served in the US Army. He was employed by Verizon in Hagerstown, retiring in 2001 after 35 years of service. He was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church in Hagerstown until his move to South Carolina.
John was a member of the Hagerstown Elks Club, the Clear Spring American Legion, the First Hose Fire Company, the Telephone Pioneers and the Ridgerunner Corvette Club for many years.
John's passion was spending time with his family, and he adored his wife, daughters, sons-in-law, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also had a love of travel and history, traveling to 49 states and multiple countries.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Rachel (Patrick) Franklin of Virginia and Natalie (David) McElroy of South Carolina, his grandchildren, David (Megan) McElroy IIII, Lucy (Wesley) McElroy Taylor, Maxwell John McElroy and Charlotte McElroy, great grandchildren Malcolm and Nancy Mae Taylor and his furry grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd, Hagerstown, MD 21740 at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 20, 2024. The family will receive friends and family one hour prior to the funeral at 10:00 AM on Saturday, April 20, 2024. Pastor Bill Divelbiss will officiate.
Graveside services will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown, immediately following the funeral. Military graveside services will be provided by Marine Corps League.
Pall bearers are Patrick Franklin, Dave McElroy, David McElroy III, Maxwell John McElroy, Kurt Peacher and Blaine Smith.
