JOHN DAVID SMITH, 49, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away Saturday, October 17, 2015 at Meritus Medical Center. Born November 24, 1965 in Waynesboro, PA, he was the son of Nancy Cook Smith of Florida, and the late John Kenneth Smith. John began his work career at Bragunier Masonry in Clear Spring, MD, and ended at Apex Masonry in Clear Spring. He loved music and all children, especially his nieces and nephews. He was the proud grandfather of Quasean Cartwright. Special mention to his brother-in-law and best friend Charles Moats, Jr., and his mother and father in-law, Charles and Orpha Moats of Hagerstown, MD. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Melissa Smith; three children, John Smith, Chad Smith, and Marissa Smith, all of Hagerstown; seven sisters, Tina Smith of Clear Spring, Melissa Shirley of Clear Spring, Betsy Smith of WV, Lisa Mesner of Chambersburg, PA, Debbie Smith of KY, Julie Smith of PA, and Karen Smith of Chambersburg, PA; two brothers, Kenneth Smith of PA and Steve Smith of Clear Spring. In addition to his father, John was preceded in death by one sister, Tammy Hose of Clear Spring. Services will be held 11am, Thursday, October 22, 2015 at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD. Pastor Jason Smith will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery in Clear Spring, MD. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to defray funeral expense.
