JOHN S. RICE, JR. of Reston, VA, died Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at Regent Care Center in San Antonio, TX. Jack, as he was known to family and friends, was born April 13, 1930 in Danville, Virginia, he was the son of the late John and Jessica Long Rice, Sr. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane A. Rice, on July 2, 1991. He served in both the U.S. Air Force and in the Office of Special Investigation with the U.S. Army, and was later employed at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. He was a member of Redeemer United Methodist Church in Reston, VA. He was a member of The Lion's Club and a former President of the Optimist Club in Reston, VA. He is survived by one daughter, Judie Lowry of Hagerstown, MD; two grandsons, Justin Lowry of Hagerstown, and Cody Lowry of Indian Head, MD, one great-granddaughter, Kaitlin Lowry, one brother, James E. Rice of Greenville, SC. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Emmanuel Baptist Temple, c/o the Building Fund, 16221 National Pike, Hagerstown, MD 21740. The family will receive friends on Tuesday night from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown, Maryland. The burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
