John Ronald
Moore
Jun 27, 1945 — Apr 4, 2026
John Ronald Moore, 80, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at his home.
Born June 27, 1945 in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late John "Chuck" Henry and Mary Jane (Andrews) Moore.
John graduated from South Hagerstown High School in 1963, the year the Rebels football team went undefeated. He proudly wore number 25 as a starter for both offensive and defensive lines. After graduating, he learned the carpentry trade and spent 40 years working alongside his longtime friend and owner of R.M. Williams, where he built homes from the ground up and earned the respect and admiration of many through his commitment and natural talent. Outside of work, John embraced life's simple pleasures and found great joy in the hobbies he loved most. He was an avid golfer, hunter, and fisherman. He also loved watching sports including golf, NASCAR, the Phillies, the Eagles, and Dustin's family's favorite, the 49ers.
John was also a proud member of the Elks, the VFW, and the American Legion, organizations that reflected his strong sense of community and fellowship.
Above all, John's greatest pride was his family. He shared an especially strong and enduring bond with his beloved wife of 58 years, Joyce, whose love was the foundation of his life. Their marriage was a true example of devotion, strength, and partnership through every season of life. The love between them was evident to all who knew them and will remain a lasting part of his legacy. One of John's greatest joys in life was the close and treasured bond he shared with Dustin, who was not only his son but truly his best friend. The two shared many of the same passions and interests, especially hunting, fishing, and the simple joy of spending time together. John cherished his daughter-in-law, Karin, as if she were his own daughter. Their bond was one of a kind, filled with genuine warmth, affection, and love. They shared a love for the Phillies and spending quality time together. John's twin grandchildren were truly his whole world and the light of his life. Ashley and Austin brought him immeasurable joy, pride, and happiness, and he treasured every moment spent with them. As their beloved "Pappy," he found his greatest fulfillment in watching them grow, celebrating their accomplishments, and sharing in the special everyday moments that meant so much.
John's warmth, wisdom, and unconditional love for his family will remain in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. His legacy of love, hard work, and devotion will continue through the family he cherished so deeply.
John is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Moore; his son, John "Dustin" Moore and wife, Karin; his grandchildren, Ashley and Austin Moore; nephews and nieces, Stewart Smith and wife, Lisa, Traci Welch and husband, Todd, Jeff Ensminger and wife, Patsy, and Bobbi Jo Wilson and husband, Chip; as well as great nephews and nieces.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Dixie Smith and husband, Les, and Barbara Ensminger and husband, Joe.
A viewing will be held at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD, on Thursday, April 9, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Attendees are invited to wear sports apparel or camouflage in honor of John.
The funeral service will be held privately.
