JOHN WILLIAM "HAP" MONTGOMERY, JR., 80, formerly of 433 Mechanic Street, Hagerstown, Maryland, died Friday November 18, 2005 at Beverly Health Care. Born March 2, 1925 in Schuyler, Virginia, he was the son of the late John William Montgomery, Sr. and Blanche Inez Ragland. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II aboard the U.S.S. Freemont in the European Theater. He was previously employed by the City of Hagerstown as a guard at City Park. He was a member St. Paul's Methodist Church in Hagerstown, Maryland. He was a member of the Antietam Fire Company and the V. F. W. Post 1936. He is survived by his wife, Betty Montgomery of Hagerstown, Maryland; three daughters, Carolyn Ragland and Beth Ann Montgomery both of Hagerstown, Maryland, and Melissa Garrett of Spartanburg, South Carolina; two sisters, Virginia Petty of Hagerstown, Maryland and Lois Pease of Dillsburg, Pennsylvania; two brothers, Robert Montgomery of Hagerstown, Maryland and David Montgomery of Greencastle, Pennsylvania; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister, Carole Montgomery; one brother, Marion Montgomery. Services will be at 1:00 p. m. Tuesday at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown, Maryland. The Rev. Dr. William C. Crowe will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park Military honors will be provided at the cemetery by American Legion post 42. The family will receive friends on Monday at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m.
