John Henry Lloyd, Jr., 91, of Boonsboro, MD, died July 15, 2024 at Doey's House. Born November 13, 1932 in Newport News, VA, he was the son of the late John Henry Lloyd and Ruth O. (Eggleston) Lloyd.
He graduated from Montgomery Blair High School, Silver Spring, MD in 1950, and graduated from University of Maryland in 1957. John served in the US Army during the Korean War, and was a member of the American Legion Post 10. He was an executive Director of Quality Control and Laboratory Director at Sealtest Chestnut Farms Dairy in Washington, DC.
He owned and operated Knollwood Manor Nursing Home in Millersville, MD from 1960 and until his retirement in 1986. He also opened Reeders Memorial Nursing Home for the United Methodist Church in 1973 where he served as the Administrator for five years.
He served as the first President and founding member of Southeastern Washington County Health and Community Services Corporation. He was a past President of the Boonsboro Historical Society, during which an addition was added to the Bowman House, and a Carriage Shed was constructed. He was on the Board of the Washington County Historical Society and was instrumental in renovating the Carriage Garage into a museum featuring an original taxicab of Hagerstown. John was a member of Benevola United Methodist Church in Boonsboro, MD.
He enjoyed the Antique Automobile hobby and belonged to the Antique Automobile Club of America, the Veterans Car Club of America, and numerous other car clubs. He initiated the establishment of a Model A Ford Club in the area. He was a licensed pilot, boat captain, a certified scuba diver, and belonged to a motorcycle group.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Charlene (Scuffins) Lloyd; three daughters, Renee Hines (husband, Dr. Robert Hines), Tracey L. Lloyd, Kimberly O'Kane (husband, David); stepdaughter, Jacqueline R. Davis; six grandchildren, Jennifer King (husband, Justin), Isabella Hines, Brendon Hines, Robbie O'Kane, Lauren Alexis Davis, and Anna Katherine Davis; nephew, Peter Cansick (wife, Bobbie); niece, Hillary Zee; and many great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Whitney A. Sigel; and sister, Elizabeth Ann Cansick; and nephew, Eric Zee.
A graveside service will be held at 11am, Friday, July 26, 2024 at Boonsboro Cemetery, 64 S. Main Street, Boonsboro, MD. Pastor Susan Jones will officiate, and military honors will be provided by American Legion, Boonsboro Post 10.
