John Edward Leisinger, Sr. pass from this life into the next on September 3, 2020 at the Martinsburg, WV Veterans Center. He was born at home on May 7, 1923 in Ringgold, MD. Not expected to live, the doctor recommended to his mother, Florence that she should leave the babe outside overnight to improve his chances of survival. Then modern day 1923 medical advice in action worked and John lived a long and healthy life. John started his career with Fairchild Aircraft just before WWII began. He volunteered for the US Army in 1943 and served as a combat veteran in the European Theatre until Germany surrendered in May 1945. Placed on a transport ship and yearning for home, his regiment with many other soldiers were transferred to the island of Luzon in the Philippines to subdue the Japanese. He was finally discharged from the service on February 24, 1946. In 1947, John married Evelyn May Van Metre who preceded him in death January 2013. After his discharge from the Army, John returned to work at Fairchild and during some work downturns at Fairchild, he was employed with Sears Roebuck Co and Westinghouse Electric. He retired from Fairchild. John was also preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Florence Leisinger and 6 siblings: Harvey C. Leisinger, Margaret C. Barnhart, Nettie L. Bonner, Theresa L. Crider, Mary B. Carbaugh, and Janet E. Stottler. He will be missed by his two sons, John Edward Leisinger II of Big Cove Tannery, PA, and Rhett Lee Leisinger of Hagerstown, MD, as well as four granddaughters and five great grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at 1pm on Friday, September 11, 2020 at Ringgold Cemetery, 14420 Barkdoll Road, Ringgold, MD. Rev. Ernest Cibelli will officiate. Military honors provided by Joint Veterans Council and Marie Corp League of Washington County.
