John Richard "Dick" Holzapfel, 92, passed away peacefully Sunday, December 17, 2017 at Homewood in Williamsport. Born December 1, 1925 in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late Chester Scott Holzapfel and Mary Catherine (Koontz) Holzapfel. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Katy Foster Holzapfel. Dick was a 1944 graduate of St. Marys High School and a 1949 graduate of The University of Maryland, College Park. He worked as a realtor in Hagerstown his entire career and was named Realtor of the Year in 1977. Dick also served as past president of the Washington County Board of Realtors as well as past president of the Civitan Club. He was a member of Zion Reformed Church and a life-long member of the Elks Club and the American Legion in Funkstown. Dick was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed nature, laughter and good cheer. Above all, he loved traveling the world and sharing life with his beloved Katy. Dick is survived by nephews Doug Mohler (Gisele), Marty Frye (Carolyn), Mark Frye (Gloria); nieces Kandy Rahochik (Tom), Kay Glisan (Dane); brother-in-law Charlie Frye; numerous cousins, but those closest to him in Hagerstown are Jim Holzapfel (Cindy) and Marjorie Long (Kenneth). Services will be held at 4:00pm, Thursday, December 28, 2017 at Zion Reformed Church, 201 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown, MD. The Rev. Kevin Munroe will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Zion Reformed Church, 201 N.
