JOHN ROBERT HECKMAN, 69, of Hagerstown, MD passed away Monday, December 30, 2013 at Meritus Medical Center. Born October 8, 1944 in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Herbert and Mary Heckman. John was a graduate of South Hagerstown High School. He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church. He joined the US Air force in 1962 serving eight years in the military. John was one of the most loyal AMVETS member and officer of Post #10 that they ever had. He loved Nascar racing, but always expressed his dislike for Jeff Gordon. He was also a member and an officer of the Antietam Fire Company for over 40 years. John is survived by his very special companion of 30 years, Florence Webb. A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, January 5, 2014 at 3pm. at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown. The Rev. Stanley Steele will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Military honors will be conducted by Washington County AMVETS Post #10 Honor Guard.
