JOHN WILLIAM HALL, 90, of 232 Jackson Avenue, Hagerstown, Maryland, and formerly of Key Avenue, Hagerstown, passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2009 at the home of his daughter. Born October 24, 1918 in Hagerstown, Maryland, he was the son of the late Samuel and Molly Laudenslager Hall. He served in the United States Navy during WW II and the Occupation of Japan. After leaving the armed services he worked for Fairchild as a fire fighter. He joined the Western Enterprise Fire Company as a volunteer fire fighter in 1940. In 1950 he was hired as a paid fire fighter and assigned to the Pioneer Hook & Ladder Company. In 1952, he became Fire Chief and served the City of Hagerstown until 1974 when he retired due to injuries fighting a fire. He was a member of Grace Bible Church, a life member of the AMVETS Post 10, and the American Legion, Morris Frock Post 42. He is survived by his spouse of forty-six years, Belva L. Beard Hall; daughter Barbara Hall McKendrick, and her husband Jack, of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, and daughter Laura Hall Reamy, and her husband John, of Hagerstown; grandchildren Eric McKendrick, Lori Decker, Amy Reamy and Bethany Reamy; and great-grandchildren, Kelsea Decker and Meghan Decker. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Grace J. Newkirk, Edna M. Shipley, and Mary St. Clair; and two brothers, Samuel L. Hall, Jr. and Robert A. Hall. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p. m. Monday at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Boulevard. Pastor Steve Taylor will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Viewing will be at the Minnich Funeral Home on Sunday from 2 to 4 p. m. and 6 to 8 p. m.
