John Leslie Frey, Sr., 77, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away on Monday, July 21, 2025, at Meritus Medical Center.

Born July 1, 1948 in Washington County, MD, he was the son of the late John Joseph and Gladys Alberta (Trovinger) Frey.

John proudly served his country as a U.S. Marine and was a decorated Vietnam War veteran, earning a Purple Heart for his bravery. He was also a longtime member of the Western Maryland Sportsman Club, where he shared his love for the outdoors and camaraderie with fellow members.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife, Shianna Lee Frey, and his daughter, Doris Amy Frey.

He is survived by one son, John Frey, Jr. of Hagerstown, MD; two daughters, Shelly Frey and Melissa Frey of Hagerstown, MD; one brother, Billy Frey of Westminster, MD; one sister, Alberta Raines of Hagerstown, MD; grandchildren, Cory Frey, Nathaniel Frey, Jacob Frey, Kameron Frey, Shiann Kinna, Serenity Lattie, and Amy Frey of Hagerstown, MD; and two great-grandchildren, Waylon Frey and Noah Frey.

The funeral will be held at 10am on Monday, July 28, 2025, at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD. Interment will follow at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park with military honors.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, July 27, 2025, from 6-8pm.
