Obituary

JOHN EDWARD BARGER, 93, of Hagerstown, died on Sunday, May 19, 2013 at Coffman Nursing Home in Hagerstown, MD. Born September 11, 1919 in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late John Franklin and Maude Estelle Barger. He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Virginia Lee Barger on December 22, 2009. He served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during World War II. He was a member of Washington Square United Methodist Church and American Legion Funkstown Post 211 Dixon Troxell. He was employed by Fairchild Industries for most of his working life. He is survived by two sons, Barry Lee Barger and wife, Linda of Manassas, VA and Darryl Kevin Barger and wife, Donna of Ellicott City, MD; four grandchildren, Lori Rose, Sheri Furlong, Jessica Oliver and Darryl John Barger; four great grandchildren, Kelly Rose, Madison Furlong, Sarah Rose and Alexandra Furlong; and his brother Raymond J. Barger. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Ruth E. Dehart and Mary Evelyn Suffecool; and brother, James F. Barger. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Jerry Lowans will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Graveside military honors will be conducted by Morris Frock American Legion Post. 42. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from noon to 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Washington Square UMC, 538 Washington Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21740 or the Hagerstown Aviation Museum, 14235 Oak Springs Rd., Hagerstown, MD 21742.
