It is with profound sadness that the family of Joan Harris announces her peaceful passing on Saturday, October 16, 2021, at age 92.
Born April 6, 1929, in Somerset County, England, Joan grew up in a small town where she attended then graduated from school. Joan completed secretary school and became a secretary at a war factory during World War II. Later with her husband and three daughters, Joan lived in East Africa until April of 1960 then moved to the USA. In 1971 they moved to Frederick, MD and in 1975, Joan and her husband began their land surveying company. She retired in 1984 to travel and spend time with her growing family of grandchildren.
Her life was devoted to her husband, raising her daughters, and spending time with her grandchildren. Joan's hobbies were camping, gardening, dancing, reading, and knitting.
Joan is survived by daughters, Janice Rennels, and Devina Thompson, son-in-law, James Riffle, and J. Todd Kennedy, 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and sister Doreen Stevenson. She is preceded in death by her loving husband Edward Harris and daughter Jacqueline Riffle.
Services will be held Saturday, October 23, 2021, at 11 AM at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD, with Rev. Bill Divelbiss officiating. Following the service, inurnment will take place at Rose Hill Cemetery, 600 S. Potomac St. Hagerstown. The family will receive friends one hour before the service.
