Jean Yvonne Barr
Schlotterbeck
Oct 12, 1930 — Feb 16, 2026
Jean Yvonne Barr Schlotterbeck, 95 of Hagerstown, MD passed away February 16, 2026, at Homewood of Williamsport, MD.
Born October 12, 1930, in Hagerstown, MD, she was the daughter of the late Frank Barr and Martha Kinsey Barr. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Jean was a 1948 graduate of Hagerstown High School. She met her loving husband of 70 years, Allen Eugene Schlotterbeck, at Starland Skating Rink in Hagerstown. There's still debate as to who flirted with whom first! They married in 1953. Jean was a member of Christ Community Church of Williamsport, MD, and a past member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hagerstown, MD. While at Christ Lutheran Church, Jean sang in the Church Choir for more than 50 years, taught Sunday School and was the Sunday School superintendent for several years.
In her young adult years, Jean worked at the local McEwen's Market that her father co-owned and acquired a keen mental-math skill of computing customers' grocery bills faster than could be rung at the register. Jean was in the high school band and played the clarinet. In her adult life, Jean worked for Potomac Edison for 34 years as an administrative assistant and stenographer. She was a charter member of the Cedar Ridge Children's Home, a volunteer for Red Cross, and a member of Potomac Edison's Forerunners Club of Retirees.
Jean was known for being a good listener and offering loving, wise advice, when asked. She was a "sounding board" for many who knew her "art" of listening. Jean was also a terrific home cook and was often asked at church potluck dinners which dish she had made. She loved sharing and reading recipes and was sought after as a constructive critic when others asked for her opinion on foods they had made. She obliged them with her straightforward opinions that were always well-respected.
Jean's favorite memories were large family gatherings around the piano as they sang and harmonized to classic Christian hymns while her sisters took turns playing the piano. Jean also shared many memories with the "Six Pack," a fun-loving group of family and friends who traveled together. Additionally, she treasured her involvement in Christian Endeavor, an evangelical ministry.
In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Allen, brother, Jack Barr, and sisters, Carol Barr, Inez Staeblein and Nancy Cummins.
Jean is survived by her daughter, Kristi Frush, and husband, Tom; grandsons, TJ and Daniel, and many nieces and nephews.
Jean's family would like to deeply thank the staff from Homewood at Williamsport for their endearing support of our family and loving care of Jean for almost nine years during her residency there. Words cannot express our heartfelt gratitude for your professionalism, cheerful service, caring hearts, and for making Jean and her family a part of your own Homewood family. We would also like to thank the support and prayers from Christ Community Church. Their encouragement and ministry given to Jean throughout all of her years of church involvement has contributed to her steadfast faith in Christ.
The family will receive family and friends 12pm to 2pm Saturday, February 21, 2026, at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD. Private interment will be in Beaver Creek Cemetery, Hagerstown, MD.
A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Homewood Foundation at 16505 Virginia Avenue, Williamsport, MD, 21795 or Christ Community Church, 300 S. Artizan St., Williamsport, MD 21795.
