Obituary

J. CARROLL GOODNIGHT, 87, of Hagerstown, Maryland, died on Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at his home. Born April 4, 1923 in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of the late Mack and Flossie Stair Goodnight. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U. S. Army. He was employed with I.B.M. for thirty-five years, retiring in 1986. He volunteered at Roxbury Institute for fourteen years, teaching math. He was a member and volunteer at the Washington County Hospital Auxiliary, and helped with Tree of Lights. He was a member of Thurmont Dance Club, and previously served as secretary. Carroll and his wife, Jean have enjoyed ballroom dancing for twenty years, and have been instructors for the last ten years. He will be missed by many people. He is survived by his wife of twenty-seven years, Jean Goodnight; three daughters, Beth Goodnight of Vancouver, Washington, Julie Crites of Hagerstown, and Krista Fidlow of Richmond, Virginia; two sons, David Goodnight of Atlanta, Georgia, and Curtis Goodnight of Hagerstown; three step-daughters, Susan Geslois of Bel Air, Maryland, Becky Unglesbee of Westminister, Maryland, and Jane Conway of Baltimore, Maryland; one step-son, William Weber of Delta, Pennsylvania; seven grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and cousins. He was preceded in death by one brother, Curtis Goodnight. Family will receive friends at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown on Saturday from 2 to 4 p. m. There will be no viewing. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
