Obituary

Janice Louise Walling, affectionately known as Jan to her family and friends, departed this world on January 29, 2025, at the age of 79. Jan was born on June 16, 1945, in Slainsville, WV, and took her final breath in Hagerstown, MD, surrounded by her family.

She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories. Her career spanned various roles, as he brought her warm personality and diligent work ethic to companies such as Heinz, Dunkin Donuts, Gold Bond Ice Cream, and the American Legion.

In her younger days, Jan could often be found at the bowling alley, where she enjoyed the camaraderie of her team and the thrill of competition. Knitting was another one of Jan's talents, producing countless blankets that warmed the hearts and homes of those she loved.

Music was a constant source of joy for Jan, with the tunes of Conway Twitty, Loretta Lynn and Alan Jackson often providing the soundtrack to her life. Jan's fondness for television was evident in her love for the Hallmark Channel and "The Price is Right", shows that reflected her optimistic spirit and love for heartwarming stories.

A daily routine that brought her comfort and pleasure was chewing gum and savoring her coffee three times a day, a simple pleasure that became a cherished ritual. Her love for these moments was a reflection of the way she cherished the little things in life that brought her happiness.

Jan was a matriarch in every sense of the word, surrounded by a large and loving family. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Walling Kendrick and her spouse, Harold, and her son, Eric Todd Walling and his companion, Abby. Her sisters, Delores Atha and Bonnie Myers, along with brothers, James Wright, Jr., Bill Wright, Karl Wright, and Gary Wright, will remember her with great fondness.

Jan's legacy extends to her eleven grandchildren: Jennifer Wright, and her companion, Floyd, Christopher Wright, Elijah Wright, and his fiancée, Tiara, Dominic Saccone, Kirsten Walling, Dani Walling, and her companion, Dwayne, Dustin Ecton, and his wife, Kristin, Brett Smith, and his fiancée, Danielle, Alexis Hoeltje, and her husband, Brett, Stephen Picone, and his companion, Katie, and Tiffany Picone, and her companion, Joe.

The joy of life was further multiplied by her twenty-two great-grandchildren: Remington, Nevaeh, Briella, Kylar, Cooper, Lucas, Jasper, Trevor, Audrey, Nora, Kamryn, Kennedy, Brett, Jr., Mila, Maci, Cheyenne, Giana, Vincent, Roman, Lorenzo, Santino, and Anthony.

Jan was reunited in death with her beloved husband, George Walling, who preceded her in passing. The loss of her son, Chris Wright and daughter, Toni Walling Picone, was a profound sorrow in her life, as were the departures of her sisters, Helen Wright, Pat Wright, Debbie Duvall, Carolyn Guessford Upperman, and her brother, Donnie Wright.

Jan's passing was attributed to a broken heart, a testament to the deep love and connections she fostered throughout her life. Her absence will be felt deeply by those who knew her, but the warmth of her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends.

The world is a little less bright without Jan's presence, but her memory will shine on, guiding and inspiring those she left behind. Janice Louise Walling will be dearly missed.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hospice of Washington County for all their help and support. Thank you to her nurse Gail and CNA Bebe.

Thank you to all her family who provided love, support, and prayers. (Robin Miller, Dustin Ecton, Kevin Smoot).

Janice recently lost her youngest daughter on January 1, 2025, which ultimately broke her heart and accelerated the decline in her own health. We would like to include a tribute to her daughter, Toni Picone along with her service.
