JANICE KERSCHNER RASEY, 72, of 1811 Brightwood Drive, Hagerstown, Maryland passed on January 2, 2007 at her home. Born January 17, 1934 in Reading, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Roy Richard Kerschner and Adele Margaret Lonis Kerschner. She was preceded in death by her brother, Roy Jay Kerschner. She was a 1951 graduate of Reading High School, and she later graduated from The American Institute of Banking. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hagerstown, Maryland. She was employed by the Bank of Pennsylvania as a Loan Officer while living in Reading and Wyomissing, Pennsylvania, and worked part time at the Mercantile Bank while living in St. Louis, Missouri. While living in Hagerstown, she was employed as a financial planner by American Express and worked for the State of Maryland in the Department of Assessments and Taxation from 1985 to 1996, at which time she retired. She had been a homemaker for most of her life. While raising the children she was active in both the Boy Scouts and the Girl Scouts, PTA's and also Woman's Club. She had been the President of the Junior Woman's Club of West Reading, Pennsylvania, and was active in the Federation of Women's Clubs of Berks County. She was a board member and advisor to the first Community Action Volunteer Bureau under the Chamber of Commerce in Reading, Pennsylvania. While living in St. Louis, Missouri, she was very active as a board member of the Citizens Advisory Council for the Parkway School District, and an active participant in the various schools her children attended. She was a member of the Lioness Club of Hagerstown, the Newcomers Club of Hagerstown, the Brightwood Homemakers Club, the Nine and Ninety Dance Club, and the Blooms and Blessing Garden Club of Hagerstown. She loved to travel, having visited all fifty states in the USA and fifty-two countries in six continents. She is survived by her husband of forty five years, Watson Rasey; one son, Jeffrey Rasey of Madison, Connecticut; and one daughter, Vicki Maloney of McLean, Virginia; and five grandchildren; Jeffrey Rasey, Matthew Rasey, Christopher Maloney, Sarah Maloney and Lauren Maloney. Her body will be donated to Johns Hopkins for research. Services will be held Saturday, January 6, 2007 at 1:00p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 15 Randolph Ave., Hagerstown. Pastor Quentin J. Fleming will officiate. Family will receive friends Saturday, January 6, 2007 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at MINNICH FUNERAL HOME, 415 East Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown. Final interment will be at Laureldale Cemtery, 4631 Pottsville Pike, Reading, Pennsylvania 19605, January 13, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at the chapel.
