Janet Ann
Latimer
Aug 2, 1938 — Apr 6, 2023
Janet Ann Smith Latimer passed away peacefully on April 6, 2023, in Hagerstown, MD, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on August 2, 1938, in Latrobe, PA, Janet's journey through life was marked by an unwavering commitment to her family, a passion for her hobbies, and a spirit that uplifted everyone around her.
Mom, affectionately known by those close to her as the matriarch of her family, was the beloved wife of James D. Latimer Jr., with whom she shared an enduring love that was the cornerstone of our family. She was a devoted mother to her son James D. Latimer III and his wife Ellyn, her daughter Tracy L. Hoover and her husband Tim, and was preceded in death by her son Randy P. Latimer. Her legacy continues through her eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy and pride to her life.
Mom embraced the role of a homemaker with grace and creativity, creating a warm and welcoming home that was the heart of family gatherings. She was a master of the art of baking, her recipes and treats becoming cherished traditions, especially during the Christmas season, which she adored and celebrated with festive enthusiasm.
Mom's interests reached beyond the home as well. She was an avid golfer, a testament to her competitive spirit and love for the outdoors. Her presence on the golf course was marked by laughter and camaraderie. In the bowling alley, Mom's spirited energy and friendly competitiveness made her a favorite among her teammates and friends.
As we bid farewell to Janet Ann Smith Latimer, we do so with immense gratitude for the time we were privileged to share with her. Her journey may have ended, but the memories she created will continue to light the way for generations to come. Mom's life was a testament to the beauty of a life well-lived, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Mom was laid to rest in a private ceremony at Union Cemetery, New Alexandria, PA, surrounded by the love of her family. As the sun sets on a life filled with moments worth cherishing, we take solace in knowing that Mom's spirit will forever dance in the hearts of those she loved.
