JANET ELIZABETH HORN, 65, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away Sunday, February 15, 2015 at Meritus Medical Center. Born September 21, 1949 in Hagerstown, MD, she was the daughter of the late Axel Mikael and Evelyn Elizabeth Talhelm Petersen. Janet graduated from South Hagerstown High School. She was a horse trainer at Charles Town for over 30 years, then employed with the YMCA for over 10 years. She was a member of Moose International, and Williamsport Red Men Tribe 84. Janet was the most outstanding mother and grandmother there could be. She was preceded in death by her first husband, William (Bucky) Freshman; and her second husband, Lester Howard Horn. Janet is survived by one daughter, April VanderPutten and husband Dale; two grandchildren, Evelyn and Olivia VanderPutten; two sisters, Beverly Barthelow and Pamela Petersen; a niece and nephew that she helped raise, Brenda Henry and David Ambrose; a great niece and nephew that she also helped raise, Shannon Gilbert and Ronnie Brackett that held a special place in her heart. In addition to her parents and two husbands, Janet was preceded in death by four brothers, Robert Petersen, David Petersen, Leaman Petersen, and Kenneth Petersen. Services will be held 1pm Thursday, February 19, 2015 at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD. Rev. Richard Kroll will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery. The family will receive friends, Wednesday from 6pm to 9pm at the funeral home.
