Janet Elizabeth Smith, 92, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 28, 2026, at Doey’s House.

Born January 5, 1934, in Hedgesville, WV, she was the daughter of the late Charles Winford and Lucille Bell (McCarty) Kitchen.

Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Smith, in 1976.

She was a 1952 graduate of Hedgesville High School and retired from Noland Company after more than 30 years of dedicated service.

Janet enjoyed crocheting and cooking throughout her life and loved spending time outdoors, especially in her yard. She was also an AVID Washington Redskins fan and proudly cheered on her team.

She is survived by her son, Robert Smith and wife, Janet; her daughter, Renee Bowen; two grandchildren, Jennifer Girouard and husband, Scott, and Mindy Schenk and husband, Morris; and three great-grandchildren, Cole Gruber, Evan Schenk, and Katelyn Schenk.

In addition to her parents and husband, Janet was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Keith Bowen, and her sister, Margaret Small Bowman.

A graveside service will be held at 1:30pm on Monday, October 5, 2026, at Rose Hill Cemetery, 600 S. Potomac St., Hagerstown, MD.
