JAMES BERNARD WHIPP, 70, of 102 South West Side Avenue, Funkstown, Maryland, died on Thursday, June 3, 2010 at his home. ` Born October 3, 1939 in Lappans, Maryland, he was the son of the late Ray F. and Florence V. McCauley Whipp. He was preceded in death by his wife of forty-six years, Mary Catherine Warrenfeltz Whipp who died on April 11, 2009. He served in the U. S. Army for three years, 1961-64. He was employed as a correctional officer with the Maryland Correctional Training Center. He was a member of the Cedar Grove Christian Church. He was a member of the Funkstown American Legion, Post 211, Western Maryland Sportsmen's Club, Amvets Post 10, Last Man's Club Vietnam Era Veterans, and a life member of NRA. He is survived by one daughter, Kathe Whipp of Greencastle, Pennsylvania; one son, James B. Whipp, II, and wife, Cindy, of Hagerstown; two sisters, Bessie C. Miller, and husband, Alan, of Browns Mills, New Jersey, and Betty Whipp Snyder of Sharpsburg, Maryland; two brothers, David L. Whipp, and wife, Carolyn, of Chester, Virginia, and Richard L. Whipp, and wife, Kay, of San Pablo, California; two grandchildren, Heather Whipp, and Josh Whipp; and a foster brother, Ozzie Stoner of Hagerstown. He was preceded in death by one brother, Merle F. Whipp, Sr. Memorial services will be held at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown on Tuesday at 7:00 p. m. Pastor Tim Close will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
