James Hansford Snead, age 72, of Falling Waters, WV died in his home on Wednesday, April 30, after his battle with pancreatic cancer. Jim was born on December 24, 1941 in Hanover, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Ruth and Hansford Snead, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, and best friend of 50 years, Nancy Lee Shull; his son, Jeffrey Snead and daughter-in-law, Lisa Snead of Chesapeake, VA; his daughter, Jennifer Rueckert and son-in-law, Matthew Rueckert of Hamilton, VA; and daughter, Jill Mayhew and son-in-law Marc Mayhew of Kingsport, TN. Jim was most proud of his six surviving grandchildren, Alexander Rueckert, Tyler Wood, William Mayhew, Zachary Snead, Samuel Rueckert, and Elizabeth Mayhew. Jim is survived by one sister, Faye Signor, and brother-in-law, Robert Signor, of Gettysburg, PA. Jim was the uncle to countless surviving nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and will be deeply missed by his football and golfing buddies, and Honeywood friends, of whom he considered to be part of his extended family. Jim graduated from Gettysburg High School in 1960. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1960-1964. Jim received his Associate's Degree from York College in PA, and graduated from Mount Saint Mary's University in MD with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting. Jim began his career in public accounting in Baltimore, MD in 1968. As a partner with KMG Main Hurdman (formerly Main LaFrentz & Co.), his area of expertise was auditing. Jim's client base included audits of businesses across varying industries, including the Baltimore Orioles Organization. In 1978, Jim began working in the Hagerstown office of Main Hurdman, relocating his family during the summer of 1979. In 1984, he left public accounting and was appointed Treasurer and CFO for Dynamark Security Centers of Hagerstown. In 2012, he retired as CEO and President of First Action Security Team. Jim was active with the Maryland Association of CPAs (MACPA). MACPA was privileged to benefit from his leadership,, first on the Member in Industry Committee in 1990 and then as a member of the Mid-Maryland Chapter Executive Committee from 1994-1999. Jim also served on MACPA's Board of Directors from 1997-1999 and on our Nominations Committee from 1998-1999. Finally, Jim served on a very important task force for MACPA that addressed concerns with the Uniform Accountancy Act in 1996. Jim was well-respected for his knowledge of tax law and his honesty and integrity in the business world. He was a mentor for many who followed his footsteps into public accounting. In addition to the contributions to his profession, Jim was also an active member of his community. Jim was proud to call himself a "Kiwanian." He provided 35 years of service to the Hagerstown Kiwanis Club, serving as 2nd Vice President, 1st Vice President, President, and most recently Treasurer for 28 years. His fellow Kiwanians hold him most notorious as "#1 flower salesman," selling the most roses each year for their Annual Hagerstown Kiwanis Rose Day Fundraiser, their single biggest fundraiser whose proceeds supported area youth organizations. Jim was a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church. Jim loved sports, either playing them or watching them. His work history in Baltimore lent to his unwavering support of the Baltimore teams. He was a member of the Colts Corral and the Ravens Roost. Jim enjoyed playing golf when he could, boating on weekends, and football on Sundays. Services will be held Saturday, May 3 at 11:00 a.m. at John Wesley United Methodist Church, 129 North Potomac Street, Hagerstown, MD. Rev. L. Patrick Ricker will officiate. The family will receive friends Friday, May 2, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. Hagerstown.
