Obituary

JAMES CLEVELAND ROHRER, 87 of Hagerstown, Maryland, passed away Thursday, November 14, 2013 at his home. Born September 10, 1926 in Shepherdstown, West Virginia, he was the son of the late George Theodore and Sarah Griffith Mace Rohrer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Tucker Rohrer who died October 1989. He was a veteran of WW II, serving with the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific where he received a Philippine Liberation Ribbon with Star; Pacific Theater Ribbon with Star and also American Ribbon and Victory Medal. He retired in 1998 from Best Building Components, after 21 years. He was a member of Morris Frock American Legion, Post #42 and a former member of AMVETS Post #10. He is survived by a daughter, Linda Ann Hongell of Waynesboro, Pa.; two sons, James C. Rohrer, II and wife Kelly of Boonsboro, Md. and Michael A. Rohrer and wife Mary Jane of York Haven, Pa.; 4 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and his companion of 25 years, Sue Henson and her son Dwayne Smith. He was preceded in death by a sister, Betty L. Crider and a brother, Joseph L. Rohrer. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Louis L. Emerick will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted at the gravesite by Morris Frock American Legion, Post #42. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Donations may be sent to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742.
