James F. Mellott Jr., 55, of 19649 Shepherdstown Pike, Boonsboro, MD., passed away on Thursday, January 10, 2013. Born on February 18, 1957 in Hagerstown, Maryland, he was the eldest son of the late James F. Mellott Sr. and Anna G. (Mull) Mellott. James graduated from Kemphorn Vocational School in Smithsburg in 1978. Some of Jim's favorite things were being a great outdoorsman. He was an active man, very energetic with the outdoors, the first one up and the last one down. He was quiet and very wise. He was anywhere and everywhere. If you lost it, or couldn't find it, Jim could get it or take you to it. Jim loved to watch wrestling, race car driving, and the King of Rock Elvis! James was a very gifted man. He had a heart of gold, and love for everyone. He was proactive, stayed busy doing a lot of everything. Collecting was his specialty. He had a little bit of everything. James was a very affectionate son, brother, uncle, great uncle, and great-great uncle. He had to limits to humor. When one door of happiness closes, another opens, but often we look too long at the closed door, that we don't see the one that has been opened. We all love you, brother, uncle. James is Survived by two sisters, Hazel R. Dill, of Hagerstown, and Ella L. Castle, of Moyock, NC; three brothers, John M. Mellott, Jeffrey L. Mellott, and Joseph A. Mellott, all of Boonsboro, MD.; five nieces, Michelle L. Thompson, of Thurmont, MD, Jamie A. Swain, of Camden, NC, Lou Ella G. Castle, of Barco, NC, Ashley M. Millen, of Belton, TX, and Amber Hough, of Sharpsburg, MD; eight nephews, Mark E. Wilhide, of Keedysville, MD, Lewis R. Castle Jr., of Moyock, NC, Tyler J. Mellott, Logan J. Mellott, Cohen J. Mellott, all of Boonsboro, MD, John M. Mellot, of Chambersburg, PA, Lewis R. Castle III and Robert R. Desautell Jr., of Moyock, NC. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, Maryland. A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park Hagerstown, Maryland. The Rev. Dale R. Carver will officiate.
