James B. H. Lefever of Catonsville, MD, died peacefully on the morning of June 17, 2018 at St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore, MD.
He was born April 2, 1933 in Hagerstown to the late Esther Baker and Samuel Herr Lefever.
James was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine G. (McFarland) Lefever, and his sister, Jacqueline L. Hales.
During his lengthy career, James served as a procurement specialist at Atlantic Research Corporation, W.R. Grace, Meloy Laboratories/Revlon and the Library of Congress.
He was a dedicated member of the Bush Hill United Presbyterian Church.
James was a 33rd Degree Master Mason; Past Master of the Springfield Lodge DDGM A.F. & A.M. James was a member of the Alexandria Scottish Rite and Kena Shriners. Additionally, James served on the board of directors of the Masonic Home of VA.
He was dedicated to scouting and served as a Scoutmaster. He started 2 troops in the Alexandria, VA area that produced numerous Eagle Scouts. He was also a recipient of Wood Badge & Silver Beaver award, scoutings highest adult leader award.
He was an Army veteran, serving his country for 6 years. Jim loved his alma mater; the University of Maryland and participated in the marching band, which had the distinct honor of performing in the Cotton Bowl and Orange Bowl.
Jim was a very active person most of his life who loved to travel. Family was always very important to him and he looked forward to the annual family trip to Ocean City, NJ; a tradition started by his eldest sister and father more than 50 years ago. Jim loved his family and was always very proud of them.
He is survived by his second wife, Marlene, his son, Ronald J. Lefever and his wife, Julie, of Ashland, VA; his daughter, Donnalynne Lefever of Springfield, VA; his sister, Joyce L. Kee and her husband, Ed, of Newark, DE; his grandchildren, Samuel Matthew Lefever of Beaverdam, VA, and Kara A. Lefever of Richmond, VA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 1pm on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive friends before the service from 12 to 1pm.
