Obituary

JAMES WILLIAM KERSHNER, 93, of Hagerstown, passed away Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at Meritus Medical Center. Born February 12, 1920 in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Earl McKinley and Grace Mae Ausherman Kershner. He served in the U.S. Army during W.W. II. He was a life member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Funkstown. He retired from Mack Truck after 20 years. James was a member of Mack Golden Bulldogs; Funkstown Volunteer Fire Company; Washington County AMVETS, Post #10; charter and life member of American Legion Funkstown, Post 211; Elks Lodge #378; AARP; Eagles, Inc. Waynesboro; and UAW #171. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Betty Mae Kershner; a son, James Lee Kershner and wife Linda of Funkstown; a grandson, James Frederick Kershner and wife Michele of Funkstown; and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Margaret Ellen Hartle and Doris Virginia Niner. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, Md. The Rev. Michael K. Louia will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Funkstown Fire Company or St. Paul's Lutheran Church Improvement Fund, P.O. Box 148, Funkstown, Maryland 21734.
