James Francis "Jay" Binau, 76, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away Sunday, July 20, 2025, at his home.
Born September 30, 1948, in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Alvin Bernard Binau, Sr. and Myra Irene (Hawkins) Binau.
Jay served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Jay was the former owner/operator of Old Orchard Liquor Store. He was a member of Maryland State License Beverage Association, the Washington County Restaurant and Beverage Association and previously served as President of the Local and State Beverage Association. He was a member of American Legion, Post #42, the V. F. W., Elks Lodge #378.
Jay was formerly with the Valley Little League and served as umpire at the league. He was with the Washington Co. Jr. Football League and coached at the (CSL) Chewsville Smithsburg Leitersburg League. He was a member of Colt Corral #7, the Ravens Roost, Maryland Terrapin and Monthly Friday Night Poker Club.
He is survived by his daughter, Kim Kidd and husband, Scott; three grandchildren, Ashley, Tyler, and Zachary; one sister Myra Binau; two brothers, John Richard Binau and Robinson John Binau; nieces and nephews; and great nephews.
Jay was preceded in death by one brother, Alvin B. Binau, Jr.
A Memorial Service will be held at 6pm Thursday, July 24, 2025, at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD. Pastor James Wells Jr. will officiate.
The family will receive friends Thursday, July 24, 2025, from 4-6pm prior to services.
Donations may be sent to the Washington County Sports Hall of Fame (WCSHOF), 19738 Meadowbrook Rd., Hagerstown, MD 21742.
