JAMES NEWKIRK HARWOOD, 94, of Mt. Airy, Maryland, died on Tuesday, December 12, 2006. Born March 30, 1912 in Greencastle, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Lee C. and Nellie Newkirk Harwood. He was the husband of Hazel P. Himes Harwood who passed away in January 2002. They were married almost 60 years. A retired dairy farmer from Mt. Airy, Maryland from 1950 to 1971, he and his wife moved to Funkstown, Maryland to enjoy their retirement. After the death of his wife in 2002, he moved back to Mt. Airy. He spent his retirement making latch hook rugs, caning chairs, gardening and keeping his home maintained. Surviving is a son, Robert E. Harwood, wife Donna and their three sons, Donald Harwood, Damon and Holly Harwood, and Thomas Harwood, all of New York. Also surviving is a daughter, Bonnie J. Wotthlie, husband Willie and their children, James Wotthlie and Debbie Osborn and Katherine and Scott Richmond, all of Maryland. He is also survived by one great-granddaughter Morgan Osborn-Wotthlie. He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; an infant son, Larry; and brothers, George Harwood, Clark Harwood, Ford Harwood, Jeptha Harwood, Earl Harwood; and by sisters, Mary Harwood and Alice Harwood Bane. The family will receive family and friends on Sunday from 2 to 5 p. m. at the MINNICH FUNERAL HOME, 415 East Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown, Maryland. The funeral services will be held at 11:00 a. m. Monday at the MINNICH FUNERAL HOME, 415 East Wilson Boulevard. Rev. Louis L. Emerick will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.
