Obituary

JACK BRANTNER SHOWE, 92, of Loyalton Assisted Living, Hagerstown, Maryland, died on Monday, May 9, 2011 at Meritus Medical Center. Born December 6, 1918 in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Frisby Brantner and Mary Josephine Strode Showe. He was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice B. Troxell Showe on June 22, 1986. He was previously employed by United Pipefitters, Local 484 for twenty-seven years, retiring in 1983. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Funkstown, Maryland. He served on the Church Council for several terms. He was a charter member of Funkstown American Legion Post 211, and a member of Potomac Fish & Game Club in Williamsport, Maryland, B.P.O.Elks #378, Veterans of Foreign War Post 01836, Friendship Lodge #84 A.F. & A. M. of Hagerstown, Ali Ghan Temple of Cumberland, Maryland, Hagerstown Shriners Club, and Tall Cedars of Lebanon #98. He loved church, and hunting and fishing was his life. He enjoyed his summer home where he "Partied on the Potomac" with his friends. Jack would always help others before thinking of himself. He is survived by his son, Barry Showe of Palm Springs, California; sister, Hope E. Shrader of Hagerstown; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Capitola Johnston, and three brothers, Joe Showe, Richard Showe, and Max Showe. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p. m. Friday at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown. The Rev. Michael K. Louia will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery. Graveside military honors will be provided by Amvets Post 10 and Marine Corp. League of Hagerstown. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 6 to 9 p. m. A Masonic Service will be conducted by Friendship Lodge #84, Worshipful Master, Benjamin Zamostny at 7:00 p. m. Memorial donations may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 24 East Baltimore Street, P. O. Box 148, Funkstown, Maryland 21734.
