Jack Angle Newkirk, 76, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away on Sunday, July 16, 2023, at his home.
Born June 29, 1947, in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late Donald H. Newkirk and Frances Angle Vanden.
Jack graduated from Massanutten Military Academy, Class of 1966. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Maryland, University College Class of 1976.
He served in the US Army from 1969 to 1972 and was a veteran of the Vietnam War, July of 1970 to July of 1971.
He worked as an accountant from 1972 to 2010, retiring in January of 2010 from Sanbower Builders, Inc.
Jack was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. He was also a member of Columbia Lodge #58, Medairy Lodge #140, Scottish Rite, Tall Cedars of Lebanon-Frederick Forest #132 – PGTC, Ali Ghan Shrine, Hagerstown Shrine Club, Royal Order of Jesters CT #117, Order of Eastern Star – Hagerstown #89-PP, American Legion Post #222, Amvets Post #9, VFW Post 1936, Elks Lodge #684 – Frederick, Ladies of The Elks & Associates #378 – Hagerstown, where he served as Treasurer for many years, Massanutten Military Academy Alumni Association – Life Member, Clear Spring High School Class of 1965 Alumni Association, Terrapin Club, and The Kentucky Colonels of Western Maryland and Beaver Creek Country Club where he enjoyed playing golf.
He lived in Middletown, MD from 1972 to 2008. In 2008, he moved to Hagerstown, MD.
Jack is survived by his wife, Nancy J. (Shrader) Newkirk. They were married on June 8, 1968. He is also survived by his son, Jack Angle Newkirk II and wife, Amy Rupert Newkirk, of Middletown; two grandchildren, Jack A. Newkirk III "AJ" and wife, Morgan, and Michele Marie Newkirk; brother-in-law, Steven William Shrader and wife, Leila; two nieces and two nephews; numerous cousins.
In addition to his parents and grandparents, he was preceded in death by his brother, William (Bill) Newkirk.
The funeral will be held at 11:00am on Friday, July 21, 2023, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 24 E. Baltimore St., Funkstown, MD. Pastor Lee Brumback will officiate. Burial will be private with military honors provided by Joint Veterans Council and Marine Corps League of Washington County.
The family will receive friends at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD, on Thursday, July 20, 2023, from 6-8pm with a Masonic service at 7pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shriners Childrens Hospital, 3551 N. Broad St., Philadelphia, PA 19140, or St. Paul's Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 148, Funkstown, MD 21734.
