Jack William Koontz, age 90, of Williamsport, passed away Friday, September 20, 2024. Born February 21, 1934, in Hagerstown, MD, was the son of Charles Leon Koontz and Goldie Rose (Semler) Koontz.
He leaves behind his wife, Margaret "Peggy" Joycene (Barnes) Koontz; three sons, Jody (Linda), Andrew (Lisa), and Patrick (Matthew); 10 wonderful grandkids, Zachary Koontz (Nicole), Kaitlyn Troxell (Rhet), Sean Koontz (Callie), Matthew Koontz (Amanda), Kelsey Pipkin (Daniel), Mark Koontz (Jodie), and Elijah, Mackenzie, Christian, and Christina Ohara; 10 great-grandkids, Mia, Julian, Kinley, Jaxon, Everett, Mia, Natalie, Eleanor, Molly, and Zoe, and a baby boy due in January 2025. Jack also leaves behind two best friends, Glen "Bud" Wilt and Charley Linebaugh.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Leon, Clarence, and Charles.
Jack served in the U.S. Army's 82nd Airborne Division. He belonged to America Legion Post #42, Williamsport Red Men, was a life member of Goodwill Athletic Club and a life member of Antietam Fire Co. he was a charter member of Christ Community Church, Williamsport, MD.
He worked at Fairchild Industries before going to the City of Hagerstown, where he retired from the Engineering Department.
He loved watching his grandkids play all sports, but especially basketball, having been a member of the Hagerstown High School's first ever State Basketball Championship in 1951. He also played for the Fairchild Packets semi-pro team.
Jack was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, rarely missing a family gathering or sporting event with the grands!
A special thanks to Hospice of Washington County, especially Stephanie and Lori and also Misty Kline and associates who walked alongside the family to help care for Jack during his difficult last year.
The funeral will be held at 10am Saturday, September 28, 2024, at Christ Community Church, 300 S. Artizan St., Williamsport, MD. Rhet Troxell will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-8pm Friday, September 27, 2024, at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.
