IDA MAY "BETTY" CHURCHEY, 91, of Hagerstown MD, passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at her home. Born May 13, 1923 in Williamsport, MD., she was the daughter of the late Tom Franklin Smith and Ethel Irene Hawbaker Smith Hawks. Ida was a loving mother, wife, and grandmother. She was a 15 year breast cancer survivor. Ida loved traveling to Tennessee and to Charles Town to the casinos and enjoyed scratch off lottery tickets. She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard N. Churchey; a son, Paul (Pee Wee) Churchey. Ida is survived by two daughters, Theresa Flook and husband, Ronnie of Hagerstown, Rose Moats and husband, Ronald of Keedysville; two sons, Edward Nelson (Oscar) Churchey Sr. and wife, Fran and Robert (Bob) Churchey both of Hagerstown; one sister, Carolina Poole of Hagerstown; one brother, Frank Hawks of Hagerstown; twelve grandchildren; twenty five great grandchildren; fourteen great great grandchildren; Nieces and nephews; and a very special person, Ruth Jesson with Hospice. In addition to her husband and son, she is preceded in death by her step father, Leslie C. Hawks Sr.; maternal grandparents, Adam and Emma Hawbaker who raised her for 10 years; four sisters, Jackie Hawks, Joann Bryan Hawks, Margaret Guessford Hawks, Hedi Hawks; six brothers, John Hawks, Donnie Hawks, Jumbo Hawks, Bill Hawks, Paul Hawks, and Tom Franklin Smith Jr.; a grandson, Sean Churchey; a great grandson, Easton Litten; daughter law, Gloria Churchey. Services will be held Monday, June 2, at 1:00 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. Hagerstown, MD. Rev. Duane R. Musgrove will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
