Hilda M. (Clark) Canfield, 86, of Hagerstown passed peacefully on December 8, 2023 at her home. She was born on January 9, 1937 in Charlton, MD to the late Oscar Lee Clark and Leota Virginia Foltz Clark.
She was a graduate of Hagerstown High School. Hilda was employed at Eyerly's Department Store in Hagerstown and was later a homemaker and bookkeeper for her husband's masonry business. She was a member of Daughters of the Nile Re Temple No. 118 in Cumberland, MD and the Tri State Nile Club DON in Hagerstown, MD. She enjoyed dancing, playing cards, and most of all, spending time with her family, especially her great-grandchildren. She was a model of kindness and grace and will be sorely missed by her family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, John E. Canfield Sr., her stepmother, Mildred Harbaugh Grove, four brothers, John Clark, Charles "Billy" Clark, David Clark, and Jerry Clark, and three sisters, Virginia Peacher, Shirley Buckley, and Rachael Rippey.
Hilda is survived by her sons, John E. Canfield Jr. (Darlene) and Scott D. Canfield (Theresa), her daughters, Tammy R. Bryan (Harry) and Kendra D. Reese (Rick), nine grandchildren, Diana McLaughlin (Douglas), Sherri Jones (Derek), Kristopher Reese Ph.D. (Danielle), Kayla Stevenson (Thomas), Kyle Reese (Stephanie), Laura Arnett (Daniel), Kip Canfield, Devin McElfresh, and Felicia McElfresh, 15 great-grandchildren, six sisters, Judy Clark, Alice Schlei, Olivia Hose (Ken), Debbie Gish, Sandy Blanton (Jim), and Janet Bosak (Tony), and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are welcomed for a visitation on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 from 10:00am – 11:00am at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Boulevard in Hagerstown.
A funeral service will follow the visitation, beginning at 11:00am, at the funeral home. Rev. Volodymyr Grinchenko will officiate.
Interment will take place at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Hagerstown.
