Herbert Lee Cooper, Sr., 87, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away Sunday, August 17, 2025, at Meritus Medical Center.

Born August 11, 1938, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Herbert Wesley and Mary Della (Mills) Cooper.

Herbert served with United States Army and Air Force Reserves. After the service, he worked with M.P. Moller and retired from Maryland Correctional Institute. He volunteered with the City of Hagerstown Fire Department.

He is survived by three sons, Herbert Cooper, Jr. (wife, Christie), David Cooper, and Thomas Cooper; 10 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Herbert was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Marie Cooper; infant son, Gary Wayne Cooper; sister, Mary Elizabeth Cooper; and his twin brother, James Luther Cooper.

A funeral service will be held at 1pm on Friday, August 22, 2025, with pastor Rodney K. Rhodes officiating at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, August 21, 2025, from 6pm to 8pm.
