Helena "Chickie" Shapiro, 91, of Sharpsburg, MD, passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2019 at Doeys House. She was born on February 9, 1928 in Rohrersville, MD to the late Arnold Lee Mullendore and Thelma Hood Mullendore. Helena attended school in Rohrersville and graduated from Boonsboro High School. She played the Glockenspiel in the Boonsboro High School Band as well as the Rohrersville Band. She also enjoyed playing the piano. Helena attended Hagerstown Business College and was also an active member in her parents farm life. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Morris Shapiro, her daughter, Gale Shapiro, two grandsons, and her brother, Robert Mullendore. She is survived by her daughters, Susan Shapiro, Marlene Shapiro, Sheila Cook and her husband, Tom, and Diane Unger and her husband, Mark, 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, her brother, George Wayne "Buzz" Mullendore and his wife, Ardath, and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends are welcomed for a memorial service on Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at 1:00pm at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Boulevard in Hagerstown. Interment will take place at Rose Hill Cemetery in Hagerstown.
