Obituary

HELEN K. HUBER SCHLEIGH, 87, of Hagerstown, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 13, 2005 at the Ravenwood Lutheran Village. Born February 26, 1918 in Hagerstown, Maryland, she was the only daughter of the late Emmert and Lillian Clipp Daley. She graduated from Hagerstown Business College, and had been employed with Interwoven Knitting Mill, Fairchild Aircraft, Leiter Brothers Department Store, Kay Jewelers, and Hagerstown Optical. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in her youth, and Otterbein United Methodist Church for the past fifty years. She was a former Sunday School teacher at both churches. Helen enjoyed being active bowling with the Ladies of the Elks, and the Eastern Star Bowling leagues for many years. In recent years, bowling with the Senior league in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania. She was a Past Worthy Matron for two terms of Hagerstown Chapter No. 89 O.E.S.; a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Elks No. 368; the Auxiliary of the American Legion, Morris Frock Post 42; and a charter member of the Amvets Auxiliary Post 10. Her activities with youth organizations were many. The Girls Scouts of America as an Assistant Leader, and Past Guardian of Job's Daughters Bethel #26. She is survived by her present husband, Harold Schleigh; daughter Sharon Huber Shifler of Cedar Park, Texas; granddaughters, Dawn Fritsche, Trisha Shannon; grandsons, Richard Shifler, Jared Shifler, all of Cedar Park; and three great-granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her first husband of forty-six years, Donald E. Huber; step-father, William C. Condon; and a great-grandson, Caleb Fritsche. The family would like to thank the staff at Ravenwood Lutheran Village and Hospice of Washington County for their loving compassionate care. Funeral services will be held at MINNICH FUNERAL HOME, 415 East Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown, Maryland on Wednesday, November 16, 2005 at 1:00 p. m. The Rev. Stephen D. Robinson will officiate. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, November 15 from 7 to 9 p. m. A memorial service will be conducted by the O.E.S. Chapter No. 89 at 7:00 p. m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Otterbein United Methodist Church, 108 East Franklin Street, Hagerstown, Maryland 21740, or Hagerstown Chapter Order of the Eastern Star No. 89.
