Helen Shank McSherry had an adventurous, long life. Helen was a spiritual and funny person and made an enormous impact on so many peoples lives. Above all, Helen believed one day she would return home to the Lord, and on November 13, 2020, she joined her family in heaven. Helen was born on April 7, 1924 in Hagerstown, MD. She was the third child of Jacob and Mary Shank. Helen enlisted herself into the US Army on her 18th birthday and served as an M.P. and a nurse. Upon returning home, she worked as "Rosie the Riveter" at Fairchild. She then worked at Maryland Ribbon until she retired. Helen was adamantly proud to be a World War II Vet. She was a life-long member of the American Legion, Amvets, The Redman, and Pathway Community Church. She loved to play bingo and gamble. She was extremely passionate about traveling and spending time with family. Every year, she most looked forward to her yearly vacation in the Outer Banks. Helen was preceded in death by her father, Jacob; her mother, Mary; her older brother, Raymond Dobbins; her younger brother, Paul Shank; her older sister, Nora Higgins; and her younger sister, Maude Myers. Helen is survived by her two daughters, Robin Hildebrand and Cathy Polasky; her two sons-in-law, Robert Hildebrand and Jeff Polasky; her three grandchildren, Christopher Myers and wife, Michelle, Jason Myers and wife, Melissa, and Joshua Ridenour; her five great-grandchildren, Kristin Keller, McKenzie Myers, Johnny Leone, Layne Myers, and Lexi Myers; and multiple nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held 11am on Thursday, November 19, 2020, at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD. Pastor Justin Repp will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Masks and social distancing are required.
