Helen Virginia Gerberich, 97, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away on November 23, 2022 at Commonwealth Senior Living of Hagerstown.  Born April 23, 1925 in Locust Grove, MD, the daughter of the late George Washington Smith and Mary Catherine (Reeder) Smith.

She graduated with the 1942 Class of Boonsboro High School, and later completed courses at Hagerstown Business College. Her first job was at Peoples Drug Store in Hagerstown. During World War II, she worked on aircraft wings at the Statton Furniture Manufacturing Company. She retired from Hoffman Chevrolet Inc. in 1993 after 48 years of employment. She was a member of Saint Andrew Presbyterian Church in Williamsport, MD. She volunteered at the Williamsport Food Bank and with Helping Hands.

Helen was truly a "homebody" and enjoyed her home and family. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey D. and Susan B. Gerberich of Hagerstown; four grandchildren, Dustin C. Gerberich, Lauren M. Windsor, Emily A. Baker and husband, Jason, and Mary Ellen V. Gerberich; four great grandchildren, Sydney B. and Peyton O. Windsor, and Tyler D. and Rowan A. Baker.

In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her sisters, Leona Stine and Grace Smith; and two brothers, Roland and Harold Smith.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1pm on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD, with Rev. Mark Sandell to officiate. Following the service, interment will be in Rest Haven Cemetery in Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service, beginning at 12pm.
