Helen Izora Alsip, 95, of Fairplay, MD, passed away Monday, October 3, 2016 at home. Born February 14, 1921 in Mercersburg, PA, she was the daughter of the late William David and Mary Viola (Atherton) Tosten. She was preceded in death by her husband, Silas Raymond Alsip, Sr. in May, 2003. Helen worked at Fairchild Aircraft as one of the Rosie Riveters. She was a former member of Blair's Valley Church of God. Helen is survived by her daughter, Mary, and son-in-law, Ernest Young, Jr., with whom she lived for the past 13 years in Fairplay, MD; daughter, Ruth Alsip of Hedgesville, WV; two sons, Richard W. Shirley and wife, Jean, of Tampa, FL, and Phillip E. Alsip and wife, Debbie, of Clear Spring, MD; one sister, Betty Hause; one brother, Glen Tosten and wife, Marilyn of Gig Harbor, WA; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Helen was preceded in death by one son, Silas R. Alsip, Jr.; two sisters, Olca King and Gladys Baker; and two brothers, Raymond and Earl Tosten. A graveside service will be held 1pm Thursday, October 6, 2016 at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park with Pastor Bill Divelbiss officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to charity of choice.
